A new English language newspaper, The Chiang Mai Post, was launched in Chiang Mai on the 10th April 2011. The Inaugural Issue covers the period 10th – 20th April and is priced at 30 Baht. The Chiang Mai Post is a broadsheet style newspaper with Front and Back pages only in colour.
The first issue of the Chiang Mai Post contains 12 pages of local and national news, travel and leisure information, features and a small section covering Chiang Mai’s social scene. Apart from “real” local news, a most welcome feature is the inclusion of a programme schedule for the immediate forthcoming major events in Chiang Mai.
The Chiang Mai Post is hoped to be a replacement for the old Chiang Mai Mail which is now only available online.
Chiang Mai, as Thailand’s 2nd largest city, deserves to have an English language newspaper for local news as the two national English language Dailies, The Bangkok Post and The Nation are both focussed on Bangkok. We wish the Chiang Mai Post every success.
